At Cowen Construction, we always try to keep our ear to the ground to spot the latest design trends. While these trends may come and go, it’s important that we stay in the know to help our clients make the most informed decisions. Now that we’re almost halfway through 2018, we thought we would share some of the biggest trends that have developed this year.

Adaptable Workplace

With new technology rolling out almost every day, workplaces need to stay nimble and adaptable. This prevents a workplace from becoming obsolete as the needs of the company change. Smart companies have started to opt for furniture and spaces that can change functions quickly and easily.

Activity Based Working

While it was invented back in the late 70s, activity based working (ABW) has really taken off in recent years. Activity based offices are set up to increase productivity by stimulating interaction and communication while keeping employee satisfaction high and lowering the overhead costs. This business strategy gives employees a choice of settings for a variety of workplace activities.

Rather than forcing individuals to do all their work in one setting, such as the standard issue desk or cubicle, ABW offers employees the choice of working in a combination of open rooms, private desks, or breakout spaces.

Wellness Focused

Companies across the globe are trying to promote a healthier and more active office. Offering an on-site gym or wellness stipend are both great ways to accomplish this goal, but an even better method is incorporating wellness into the design of the office. Standing desks, comfortable breakrooms, and even outdoor walking trails will let every employee know wellness is a high priority.

If you’re considering building a new office space, call Cowen Construction. We have a long track record of helping clients create their ideal working environments.
